On April 30, 2020 the Bed-Stuy Gateway BID (BID) hosted a webinar, attended by 44 participants. During this hour-long conversation, we heard from 3 business owners and stakeholders in the Bed-Stuy BID’s commercial corridor. Each speaker shared his/her experience with running a business during the pandemic and thoughts on the future.
By providing access to higher education AFUWI is taking a lead role in the quest to break the cycle of generational poverty for students attending The UWI. Over the past 10 years, AFUWI has provided approx. 500 tuition scholarships to students across the Caribbean region, donated $7M in goods and brokered multiple relationships with other tier one institutions. The majority of the funds which provide for the scholarships are raised from the Annual Gala. Invitation designed by Luanda Lozano Designs.
In 2019 we were honored to support the work of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) and plan the December 2, 2019 benefit fundraiser in honor of EJI’s founder Bryan Stevenson and celebrate the acclaimed film Just Mercy, to be released by Time Warner in January 2020. The invitation was designed by Kelly Szymanowski of Alpine Creative in NYC.
In 2019, we collaborated with the Bedford-Stuyvesant Gateway Business Improvement District (BID), Medina Sadiq JD, Executive Director, and Lynette Battle, Deputy Director, to produce its 10th Annual Meeting & Holiday Reception. The theme for this event: Celebrating 10 Years and Beyond: Impacting the Future of Bed-Stuy. Many leaders and stakeholders helped the BID celebrate, including: Hon. Kathleen Courtney Hochu, Lt. Governor of New York State; Milovan Blair, Sr. VP of Operations, Con Edison, Juliet Lewis, Community Relations Manager, Con Edison; Assemblywoman Tramaine Wright and representing Hon.
