For several years Event Strategies For Success has provided special event management and donor cultivation services to the American Foundation for The University of the West Indies (AFUWI).
AFUWI’s “The Legacy Continues Gala” is the organization’s signature fundraiser to support exceptionally talented, yet financially needy students pursuing their education at The University of the West Indies.
On Friday, April 17, 2026, AFUWI hosted its 29th Annual “The Legacy Continues” Awards Gala at 583 Park Avenue in New York City. Invitation designed by Luanda Lozano Designs, Inc.
The evening was designed to begin where every legacy does — at the foundation. But before the awards program began, the room heard first from Kayla Newman, a final-year medical student at the UWI Mona Campus and recipient of the SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University Scholarship.
The first award of the night honored Anthony Belinfanti and his son, Gregory Belinfanti, Esq., recipients of the Pathfinder Award for Generational Impact in Education — a reminder that the path you build is always for someone who comes after you.
Six additional honorees were celebrated across the evening: Dr. Kevon Rhiney, Ph.D. (Pelican Award); Dr. Wayne A.I. Frederick, MD, MBA, FACS (Caribbean Luminary Award); Dr. Wayne Riley (Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Institutional Impact); Camille Joseph-Goldman (Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Public Service and Community Impact); Dr. Jacky Wright (Phoenix Award for Global Technology and Digital Leadership); and Dr. A. Norman Sabga alongside the ANSA McAL Group of Companies (Chancellor’s Award and Corporate Award for Excellence in Global Business Leadership).
The evening closed at its highest point. His Excellency, Dr. The Most Honourable Andrew Holness, ON, PC, MP, Prime Minister of Jamaica, received the Legacy Award — presented jointly by Chancellor Dr. The Honourable Dodridge Miller, Vice Chancellor Prof. Sir Hilary Beckles, and AFUWI Board Chair Dr. Cyrus McCalla. Twenty-nine years. Countless scholarships. One enduring promise: that access to education is a right, not a privilege.
